Sudbury Professional Photography | James Hodgins

Tuesday, January 5th, 2016

Now that 2016 is in full swing in the mining industrial sectors it’s time to start thinking about this years marketing materials and online portfolio.  Trade show season is only a few months away and you don’t want to leave it until the last minute so you are scrambling for images for your presentations, trade show booths, investor reports and online updates.  A full day shoot can yield high quality “wow factor” images that can be used throughout the year without repeating the use of images.  I will work directly with your creative marketing team to formulate a shoot schedule and scenario list that would work best for your company.

Payton – Sudbury Portrait

Monday, September 29th, 2014

A few days ago I had the chance to photograph one of my teammates for some upcoming promotional/marketing material for her sponsorships.    Luckily for us it warmed up outside to a nice sunny 24 degrees which made the session much more productive.   She may look mean, but if I posted some of the outtakes you would soon realize that her demeanor is completely different when she’s not in the ring.  Here is one from Friday’s Session.

Sudbury Mining & Bees

Thursday, September 25th, 2014

Recently I was called to action to photograph a different subject matter I normally don’t see on a mine site.  Vale has introduced a few new Bee colonies to help pollinate the already present wildflowers and  push forward the re-greening process on the site.   Learn more  by watching the CTV News Coverage

Over 500,000 bees occupy the 2 hives on site.

Sudbury Photographer – Mining Magazine

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014

As I was browsing through the latest issue of Mining Magazine I came across one of my images I created for Stantec.  It’s always a nice surprise to see your images used in print.  Looking forward to photographing for Stantec again.

Coal Mining – Sudbury Photographer

Tuesday, August 5th, 2014

Another scoop of paydirt is on it’s way to be processed.   The higher vantage point allowed me to capture a part of the dragline on the other side of stockpile.

Sudbury Photographer – Refinery at night.

Wednesday, July 30th, 2014

Using a longer exposure to capture this refinery smooths out the steam and enhances the facilities lighting creating a more dramatic effect.

Sudbury Photography International

Tuesday, July 29th, 2014

It was all smiles while photographing this industrial mechanic. Even though the temp was above 32 degrees with 90% humidity he laughed when I told him it was -32 C back home.

On-Site Portraiture

Thursday, July 3rd, 2014

Just as I would in studio, when I create portraits on the job site I pay careful attention to the main fundamentals of good photography. Lighting, composition & exposure. However there is more to it than this, lens selection, aperture choice, background environment and white balance are key factors as well even when creating a portrait using simple ambient light.

I Am A Little Rusty

Tuesday, June 24th, 2014

Normally I am photographing everything that rusts but I found myself a little rusty last night while on my first family shoot in over a year.  Luckily I knew them all as they were one of my wonderful wedding clients of 2012 and they still had 2 sessions leftover from their wedding package.  It didn’t take me long to get back into the swing of things, but I do have a new appreciation for Joce and what she brought to the table during our sessions.

Here is a candid one of Son & Dad.  Always love the images that are created when we are not actually “photographing”

Hire A Professional

Monday, June 23rd, 2014

How many of you knew that my logo was created using 3 of my mining industrial images? I wanted to incorporate some of my work into my brand but I obviously lacked the skills to create the artwork, so I hired a professional graphic designer to complete my vision. Here are the 3 images he merged into creating my logo.
