The love for mining/industrial photography started over 15 years ago when I was asked to photograph  a knee surgery for a local marketing agency.  All was good throughout the beginning until the smell of burnt bone (when they cut open the knee with a saw) hit my senses.  Luckily I got enough images by that time to make a quick exit.

This shoot then led it’s way into a more industrial project where I had to photograph some trades people doing their job.  The below image was my very first time photographing a welder………………..and I was hooked.

I will sometimes place my camera on boom arms or telescopic poles and remote trigger the camera to get the shot.   This is very useful for those hard to reach places where safety is a concern.

From afar the teeth of the Dragline Excavator bucket can look pretty small but when you get right up next to it the size takes on a whole new meaning to “looks can be deceiving”.  So far this is the largest bucket I have photographed but I am sure I will get the chance to capture bigger things in the mining industry.
