I enjoy getting snailmail. When I come home from shooting and I see something sticking out of the mailbox, a little bit of joyful glee comes over me when I realize it’s an industry magazine. I take my time going through each page reading the articles and enjoying the photography of others in the industry but in the back of my head I am hoping to see one of my images being used every time I flip the page. It’s not about me, but more about my clients. I enjoy the fact that they are using my images for what they were intended for in the proper marketing media.
Here are a few images that were recently in the latest issue of www.miningmagazine.com for writeups on 2 of my clients Joy Global and Dumas Mining

When traveling to other Countries to photograph mining industrial operations I always try to get out and about to talk & photograph the locals trying to capture a piece of their story in a single image.

Professionally created images can bring more attention to your marketing materials. Take a look at your images, ask others, look at your competitors and see if your images are in the same “league”. If not, then it’s time to upgrade your media library.

First I found myself at MIC and now I have made my way to diGusto. Having these two gentleman around me multiple times while photographing their establishments and culinary creations I finally got the opportunity to put these two brothers in front of the camera this morning for a quick snapshot. I still think I came out with the better end of the deal as I walked away with a pizza and other goodies that I was reluctant to share with my wife. Looking forward to photographing (and tasting) diGusto’s menu items next week. Stay tuned.

The snow is melting in the Northern Climates and the first showing of dirt is making it’s visible return. Soon comes the dusty sand gritted wind that you can easily find on the mine site.

This is an oldy but still one of my favorite images especially when I had a large metal print made from the image for display. I captured this just as a few rocks slid down the front slop and created this HUGE dust cloud that eventually enveloped the cat.

Take a look at the images you are using to market your company. Are they out of date? Irrelevant? Low Quality? STOCK? If you answered YES to any of these then your marketing materials are misrepresenting your company.

We photographed Vincent in the studio the other day for images for his portfolio. Vince is another one of my picks from the Charm Plus Northern Talent Search Event. More images to come from this stylish young gentleman.

When I am photographing the parents during a family session I always have the corner of my eye on the kids to see what they are up to. Sometimes you get those great candid shots that Mom & Dad LOVE!

Summer is just around the corner and we are gearing up for our outdoor Family Portrait Sessions. Past and future clients are already starting to book their dates for the coming Months and we suggest you do the same if you are interested. We put a lot of planning into your family portrait session as we don’t just plop you down anywhere and snap 5000 images. Family Portraits are created to be hung on your walls as a display piece, so that you can look them every day. We are SOOOO excited for this summer. I LOVE photographing families on locations outdoors. 🙂

Actually it wasn’t a “day” at all, more like Cat 2 minutes and 7 seconds. Joce and I decided to brave the odds and get our two furballs into the studio and update their portrait. The last time I did this was about 8 years ago and we figured since the one cat “Bogen” is getting up there in age, we might as well do it now before it’s too late. What a pure joy it was to get these two to sit still for the camera. Purring & talking, scratching and hissing. Oh the wonderful joys of photographing felines. I so look forward to when we officially launch “Cat Day” at the studio. FYI – Cat Day will be held at James Hodgins Photography when hell freezes over and turns into one giant litter box.
Out of the dozen or so images I snapped we did manage to get two that pretty well portrays our kitties. They will now be memorialized with 30 inch vertical canvas prints in our home. We are really glad we managed to get this done, as it will make us appreciate the time we still have with them both, as their lives almost came to a sudden end earlier today. 🙂
“Bogen – the old guy”

“Balou – the talker”
