I always like to capture the “lighting of the torch” scenario when I am on location shooting welding/cutting. All my lighting is setup and ready to go through the required shot list for my client but before we start I have them do one more “test shot”. The subject still thinks that we are getting set up for the shoot but really I just want this type of shot as natural as the subject can orchestrate it without any direction from me or the shoot coordinator.

If you require custom professional photography for your business or industry contact me to discuss a shooting plan for your required marketing materials.

Today I spent the day at College Boreal photographing some of their new departments and faculty at the College. They have really increased their resources for the arts and culinary industries. Here is an image I created to showcase their new state of the art Theater center. Although it is equipped with some pretty high tech lighting equipment I still had to use some smaller flashes to light the ceiling and other parts of the theater where their lighting system did not reach.

Here is one of the platters I photographed at Smiths Marketplace today in the South End. These Sandwich’s are ready to go right off the platter, an easy choice for my next UFC get-together.

With images like this I try not to get too close as I’m afraid that a spark will light my beautiful hair on fire. Welding shot’s are always interesting to photograph and the challenge is to try to keep as much detail in the image closest to the burn spot. A slower shutter speed always yields some great spark trails as you can see in the image below from Cambrian College’s Trade’s Center.

At least my tummy is. Today was another full day photographing the College’s Accademic Calendar and the best was saved for last. My rule of thumb is that I have to eat anything food related that I photograph, and today was full of deserts and dishes. Chef Simon Le Henaff creations are all part of the College Boreal’s NEW Culinary Arts Program.

The Just Lubes Chelmsford Location is getting a brand new high end website designed to showcase the outstanding service Jamie and his team provide and they asked me to photograph some images for the site. It’s imporant to have images that reflect YOUR company or business. THINK ABOUT IT. Do you want your business to “look” like all the others in your industry or do you want people to NOTICE your business and leave an impression of professionalism? The more visual insight you can give clients and leads, the quicker they will be to call your company over all others.

Here is another commercial image from one of my recent shoots. Sometimes it’s tricky to get light where there is no light. Luckily I have enough small flashes that I can tuck and hide them in places you wouldn’t normally think of (that didn’t sound right). For me, it’s all about lighting, as lighting can make or break an image no matter how good the subject matter is.
(note to self: When sparks start to fly, make sure you are far enough away so they do not land in your hair…or on your clothes…..or skin)

I shoot a lot of mining and industrial images for various companies across North America. Most of the time after the shoot is done I never get to see how the images are incorporated into their business. Every once and awhile though one of my contact persons will send me some of the finished products and publications. This warms my heart. Thank you to to those people that take the time to send me your publications with my images in it. My your life be full and prosperous and your mind enlightened and clear.

Today I had a commercial shoot at Cambrian College for the trades department. The morning consisted of welding, grinding, and other activities that involved sparks. The afternoon brought music to my ears as I was assigned to do headshots of the music department faculty. Pretty straight forward stuff as they needed a simple head & shoulders photo for the bio page of the website and other promotional material.
Dr. Charlene Biggs (The Piano Prof) wanted something specific and asked if we could accommodate her. She wanted an updated image of the “looking through the piano head shot” photo that she had done a few years ago. I had no idea what it looked like, but in 5 minutes we came up with this.

I hope I have the chance to capture the other faculty in their own “music environment”
Cheers
Your Sudbury Photographer.
