Tuesday, May 17th, 2016I enjoy getting snailmail. When I come home from shooting and I see something sticking out of the mailbox, a little bit of joyful glee comes over me when I realize it’s an industry magazine. I take my time going through each page reading the articles and enjoying the photography of others in the industry but in the back of my head I am hoping to see one of my images being used every time I flip the page. It’s not about me, but more about my clients. I enjoy the fact that they are using my images for what they were intended for in the proper marketing media.
Here are a few images that were recently in the latest issue of www.miningmagazine.com for writeups on 2 of my clients Joy Global and Dumas Mining

The “Business” of Social Media Marketing | Sudbury
Monday, March 28th, 2016Like with any “business” big or small your prospective clients HAVE TO SEE YOU. If they do not know you exist then how can they possibly purchase your product, service or technique? If you are a business owner and you are reading this blog post but don’t have your own website (with blog), Facebook page, Twitter or Linkedin account (to name a small few) then eventually you are going to walk the way of the dinosaurs. You will fade………..extinct. The younger generation are coming into positions of buying, managing and marketing and how do you think they find, research and review their prospective purchases? Social media of all levels. I deal with many types of business’s and have seen this many times where the “old school” business is running great but as time passes by their visual presence stays the same and eventually becomes outdated.
Maclean Engineering seems to be embracing social media and within the last year I have seen many changes to the companies online presence. Now, I am biased because they do use a lot of the images I created for them but they are USING them on many different platforms from hardcopy marketing to social media. Just a few days of shooting in different locations and they now have an arsenal of updated visually stimulating images of their products with their people that they can use for the next year or so posting daily.
They get it. Are you?

When the dust settles | Digging In Sudbury
Monday, February 29th, 2016This is an oldy but still one of my favorite images especially when I had a large metal print made from the image for display. I captured this just as a few rocks slid down the front slop and created this HUGE dust cloud that eventually enveloped the cat.
Take a look at the images you are using to market your company. Are they out of date? Irrelevant? Low Quality? STOCK? If you answered YES to any of these then your marketing materials are misrepresenting your company.

Wednesday, February 24th, 2016Marketing your Sudbury Business
Thursday, January 28th, 2016Here is an image from a few years back while I was on assignment photographing different trades across Ontario. If you own a small company with limited employees and you wish to grow your clientelle then showcasing your staff, product and fabrications to demographic is very important. Using custom images instead of “stock” photography can have your future clients connect with you by putting visuals to your business. Having a wide spread portfolio of images to use on social media is a must these days as the younger generation that are moving into the workforce are used to connecting on these different medias. Read why it’s always a better path to use custom images created for your company than stock images that are irrelevant or repetitive.
Sudbury Marketing
Tuesday, January 26th, 2016The next big industry event is just around the corner with less than 6 weeks preparation time. PDAC 2016 is coming up fast and if you have not started making preparations for your marketing materials for this event you are going to be cutting it close. Sit down with your marketing department (if you have one) and start discussing what changes you might need to make for this years trade show season. Last summer I had the chance to work with Tracks & Wheels here in Sudbury, Ontario creating visuals for their new marketing materials spearheaded by Norman Studio‘s. Both teams were excellent to work with. Looking forward to seing more of their materials over the next year.

Mining Photographers Images Used For New Atlas Copco Website | Sudbury Mining Photographer
Wednesday, December 16th, 2015I have been creating images for Atlas Copco (Mining & Exploration Ontario Divisions) for several years now from hard to reach Northern Ontario locations to the hills of Mexico, above ground to 1000’s of feet underground. Most of the time the images are used for product brochures, magazine articles and internal investor presentations. That being said, it’s still nice to see your images used on their new international website which was launched earlier this week. Thousands of Copco images are created each year (including my own) and some of them are put into their online media archive to be used by all Atlas Copco Divisions.

Mining Photography Sudbury
Tuesday, December 1st, 2015Mining photography is something that kind of caught me by surprise. When I look back on 20+ years being in the photography industry, photographing, speaking, teaching I honestly didn’t think it would lead me deep into the Earth. I take a lot of pride in my mining photography as I have done with all my previous clients and try exceed the expectations of many. Mining photography is not easy. Some may think it is, and it can be if all you are doing is pointing the camera and snapping off pictures but to create an image that can represent a product or company is a bit harder than it looks. The one thing I have learned as a Mining Photographer in this industry is this…………you just roll with it. People in the industry will know what I am talking about.
