A Boy & His Toy

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Still here in Nashville for our Annual NoBs Convention and I am just about to get into my costume for our belated Halloween Bash. I thought I would take this moment to post an image that I had taken at NSI (Niagara School Of Imaging) that I had forgotten about, until Allen Rothwell called me Saturday while I was waiting in the airport. It seems that we were only 20 terminals away at the Pearson Airport as he was traveling to speak at a seminar just as I was. Unfortunately we couldn’t hook up for a bite to eat, but that’s ok as I see him enough at conventions and tradeshows and I am sure our paths will cross again soon. This is an image of Allen and his new toy. Unfortunately his Ducati didn’t make it to NSI so we had to settle for the next best thing.

I will have some more updates from our convention as I speak tomorrow.  Stay tuned.  Be home Thursday.

Sudbury Rock & Roll

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

If your in town and you enjoy live music, make sure you check out Superstack & The Trews tonight at the Grand Night Club.  I was fortunate enough to photograph The Trews in North Bay  in 2004 as they were just bursting onto the music scene.  Both Superstack and The Trews have some amazing talent, and we are fortunate enough to have Superstack right in our own backyard.  Come out and support our local music talent.  See you tonight.

The latest edition of the Sudbury Living Magazine has hit the stands with a photo from yours truely.  This editions featured article is on the Gregorini Family and if you Live in Sudbury, then chances are you have eaten at one of their fine establishments.  Make sure you check out Willie’s Ristorante Verdicchio , or Marks establishement – Franks Delicatessen on Durham st. , or Rob & Mini’s Respect Is Burning .  Joce and I had a lot of fun with this session as it was the first time we got to formaly meet Willie, Mark, Rob & Mini.  Fortunately for us, the sessions didn’t stop there as we had to schedule another session for Rob & Mini and another session for Mark.  This was a blessing in disguise as  we not only got to know Mark, Rob & Mini better, but we also formed some good solid business friendships.  It’s a good thing surrounding yourself with people that are just as passionate about their business as you are.  It amazes me how quickly we offered our help to each other and our business’s.
Make sure you pick up a copy of this magazine and read the whole article, or better yet, just go have a bite to eat and talk to each of them personaly.

No Room For Crappy Assistants…..

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Well I need a shower now, covered in grass, dirt and other stuff.  Unfortunately Bruce didn’t work out with his assistantly duties.  For those of you that don’t know the history behind our “No Room For Crappy Assistants” posts, please check out our previous post HERE.  This then escaladed in our NoBs site where we have many more videos and more  members are getting in on it.  Now for those of you that have been sending me emails, yes,  these are jokes.  Thanks for the concern anyways, you did make me laugh so hard that my pop came out my nose.  The good news is, we used a new assistant today and he didn’t work out either.

Loonie & On The Loose In Lindsay Ontario.

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Well we are back in our hotel room, Jose is recovering from his head injuries, Joce is bushed, and I still have a full belly from the kickbutt supper Mark and Chantal co-created for us.  Today’s photographic crapshoot was blast.  What do you get when you have 3 oddball photographers , two sane women and headfull of wacky photographic concepts?  You get Loonie In Lindsay.  It all started out with us creating new “bio” pics for our website, but once we started we couldn’t stop.  I don’t know if it was the photocrack or the digital heroin, but  the ideas were getting more and more……….unusual.  In the end though, IMO (in my opinion) we created some pretty kickbutt images, and a few funny stories to go along with them.   I look forward to the next crapshoot, they usually don’t come soon enough.

Mom, don’t worry, I’m still me.

“Isn’t it cool that you can have two totally different images from the same location. The chair never moved…just a different angle, different lens, different perspective and a different photographer. There’s always more then one way to skin a lazyboy :) Great hangin’ with you guys…Chantal and I had a blast!”

Melissa McIntyre Rocked Again.

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Well we had another rockin day yesterday. We took the beautiful actress Melissa downtown St. Catherines  so we could find more Heaven in the oddest places. We started off using the outside of the textile warehouse we used the day before with Dana. Luckily the security guard was there again so we headed back inside, but this time we used the other side of the building. I set up my flashes for some off camera flash, and gave each of my students only two shots. The first one was to see if they did it correctly and to make any adjustments and the second shot they had to make count. They seemed to have a lot fun with this assignment. We then went outside and found a cool graffiti alley way where we finished off the day. Thanks again to my class for a great week. I had a blast, and the enthusiasm they showed really brought a high energy to the class.  Thanks again Melissa for taking the time to come out and be my model for the day.  I had a great time photographing you and getting to know you in the short time we had.  Hopefully I get the chance to photograph you again.  There is always next year at NSI.

She flipped me off twice and peed on my couch!

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Sometimes our clients just don’t love us and they don’t hold back letting us know.  Piper was no exception, she just just didn’t want to be in the studio, nor did she want me to take her photo.  It was her first time in the studio so it did take a bit of getting used to, but after I worked my charm on her (just like I did with Joce haha) I won her over and she posed like the little princess she is.    It was all a ruse.  She made me think I was in the free and clear as we put her on the couch and I immediately knew we fell into her trap.   In the end I had the last laugh as the studio couch was  Scotch Guarded a long time ago bwahahahaha and when Piper get’s older Uncle James will bring forth these images and this story to the first boyfriend she brings by to meet us. 🙂

A Half Nakid Fireman – 4 The Ladies. {Sudbury Photographer}

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

We photographed Mr. Laronde last August for the calendar.  This image was shot just behind the Home Depot Center overlooking the Kingsway.   We were on top of the firetruck while Jesse was leaning over the side, the trick for me was to get my flashes on either side of him as I would have needed 14 ft stands.  I had to other fireman on either side of me holding my flashes out on either side of Jesse to create a more 3 dimensional look.  For you ladies, don’t forget to subscribe to my blog (hodeblog me located in the right column) to be notified of my other posts involving the fireman.

From A Beautiful Prom Dress To An Ugly Boot.

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

We just finished Taylor Austins session about 1 hr ago.  Taylor and her mother (Natalie, whome I have known since highschool) wanted some images to showcase the part of her life that involved dance (I think Natalie just wanted images of her daughter to show off to all her friends, don’t deny it Nat.  I know you will be bringing in Raegan soon as she is just as pretty as Taylor).    We had a blast with Taylor.  She was right at home in front of the camera and there was never a moment where we didn’t have a new pose.   We found a new “unique” place to shoot that offered a large variety of images, and we were moving moving fast as the sun was already below the horizon and we wanted to get a few images with her prom dress.  Unfortunately our session got cut short (due to the lack of light too) as we really didn’t pay attention to where we parked.   Thanks again Nat & Taylor, we look forward to future sessions with you.
