Custom Commercial Photography In Sudbury | Hodgins Photography

Wednesday, March 30th, 2016

As my previous post showcased how one company used their custom photography images across multiple platforms the same can be said for the Killarney Mountain Lodge.  Not only did they secure the web url (I still cannot believe that this domain name was available) but they have created a very user friendly eye catching website that showcases their facility and services.  On top of that they promote their business via their Facebook Page, Twitter & Instagram.    They even showcase their custom photography with hardcopy marketing in the form of brochures and trade show booths.    One “block” of images can be used across multiple social media marketing platforms including TripAdvisor, Google Reviews, Newspaper and Tradeshows.

Now that 2016 is in full swing in the mining industrial sectors it’s time to start thinking about this years marketing materials and online portfolio.  Trade show season is only a few months away and you don’t want to leave it until the last minute so you are scrambling for images for your presentations, trade show booths, investor reports and online updates.  A full day shoot can yield high quality “wow factor” images that can be used throughout the year without repeating the use of images.  I will work directly with your creative marketing team to formulate a shoot schedule and scenario list that would work best for your company.

In a previous post I mentioned I photographed images for Vale’s new Home Safe Program.  Below is the video that was created by if you have not already seen it.  While we were filming I was creating stills on the fly for the marketing materials that are placed throughout the minesites. I have attached a few below.

I captured this image last week while underground in Quebec and at the time I had several ideas on how I would title this.  As I was getting ready to post it just now I really couldn’t add any text to it.  Adding text just might decrease the impact that this image has.  There are SO many stories behind this image but it is up to you to decide which one relates to you. So at this time I am leaving it unnamed. Enjoy.

I do enjoy photographing underground any chance I can get but I am looking forward to working with a few new clients this Summer in some unique locations.   Each location brings it’s own challenges whether it’s lighting, accessibility, or even the subject I am shooting, but that is all part of the job. As a professional it’s not about “rolling with the punches” but rather “been there done that” which only comes with experience.

I still remember how amazed I was at just how small things can look in the distance.  It wasn’t until I was standing beside this beast (and within it) just how big it actually was.  Of course, I know that this Dragline  is small in comparison to other mining machines around the world, but it’s still a beast in my books.

Over the years of photographing the mining/industrial industry I have had numerous opportunities to meet some great people.  Sometimes our paths cross multiple times before I get to photograph them in their working environment which only makes the shoot that much more enjoyable.  I always try to ask A LOT of questions in regards to their job and what they do so I can come up with a concept for the shot. (this also depends on how the image will be used in the companies marketing material).   I enjoy learning about each profession and trade in the industry which in turn helps me with my future shoots.  I always appreciate the time they take to educate me about their job and what they do.

Ever wonder what the view from inside a scoop looks like?  I think for anyone used to driving a car with a wide field of view would be hard pressed to get used to it.

While photographing a project last night inside Garson Mine located in Sudbury, Ontario I grabbed this quick snapshot while we were walking back to the dry.  I love photographing the same location on site in the daytime and the nighttime to see the stark contrast between the lighting scenarios.  I beefed up the ISO and handheld at 1/20th of a second.
